Taking Chances: How Wade Simmons Turned Challenges into Opportunities

Have you ever faced a roadblock that made you question your path? Wade Simmons knows that feeling all too well. His story is a powerful reminder that sometimes, the obstacles we face are just detours guiding us toward our true destination.

Wade grew up in Chicago with two passions: becoming a funeral director and a filmmaker. While most kids were dreaming of typical careers, Wade was charting a unique course. In high school, a supportive teacher helped him land a position at a local funeral home. For 13 years, he dedicated himself to the mortuary business, gaining hands-on experience that few his age could claim.

But when it came time to formalize his education, Wade hit a snag. Mortuary school proved more challenging than expected. Despite his real-world experience, the academic tests were tough, and he found himself struggling. At one point, he even had to restart the program. Frustrated and disheartened, Wade contemplated giving up on his lifelong dream.

Instead of surrendering, he decided to pivot (little did he know that it would be the first step towards bringing him back to previous passions).

Wade enrolled in film school, reigniting his other passion. Surrounded by creativity and equipped with resources, he flourished. He didn't just attend classes—he took action. By graduation, he had already produced 14 short films. Film school wasn't a departure from his path; it was a new avenue that enriched his journey.

But Wade didn't abandon his goal of becoming a licensed funeral director. He continued to study and, after persistent effort, passed the necessary exams. Today, he owns both a mortuary company and a film production company called Wade In The Water Productions. He's also explored interests like professional wrestling, proving that he's unafraid to step into new arenas.
